Claude is on a genuinely generational run right now. In a single week, Anthropic shipped a new agent that lives in your Slack, a new default model, relaunched the most powerful AI in the world, and quietly dropped a full design tool. 1. Claude Tag joins your Slack as a team member

The one that feels like the future. Anthropic launched Claude Tag, and it lets Claude join your Slack workspace like an actual teammate. You tag it in a channel and it works: it can pull files straight from your drive, read and edit documents, draft and edit emails, and handle the back-and-forth that normally eats your day. Instead of you copying context into a chat, Claude is already inside the place where your team works. For anyone running a team, this is the closest thing yet to an AI coworker who's just always there.

2. Sonnet 5 is the new default

Sonnet 5 is Anthropic's newest model, and the pitch is simple: the best model for agentic and autonomous work at the cheapest price. It crushes the previous Sonnet across the board, and while it's still not quite at Opus 4.8 level, it's close enough that most people won't notice the gap for everyday work. The best part is accessibility: it's the default model on both the free and the pro plans, so basically everyone is now getting a serious upgrade without changing a thing.

3. Fable 5 is back (and still the most powerful AI in the world)

Fable 5 is the model that was so cracked the government stepped in and pulled it for national security. Anthropic made a few changes and relaunched it, and it still crushes the benchmarks and every other AI out there. 4. Claude Design shipped too

Almost lost in the noise: Anthropic also released Claude Design, a full creative tool built right into Claude. You describe what you want and it designs prototypes, mockups, presentations, brand kits, even carousels, then you can export them or hand them to Claude Code to build for real. Nobody's really talking about it yet, which is exactly why it's worth a look now.

So is Claude winning the race against ChatGPT?

Here's my honest read. On raw capability and on the "AI that actually does work for you" front, this week put Claude ahead. Claude Tag inside your tools, a cheap default that's genuinely strong, and the most powerful model in the world all landing at once is a serious statement. But races like this flip month to month, and OpenAI won't sit still. The smart move isn't to pick a team, it's to use whatever's best for the job in front of you, and right now, for a lot of jobs, that's Claude.
